Back To Scool with Siyakholwa COVID – Last week the educators returned to school to finalise the preparation for the Matrics who will join the schools on Monday, 1st June 2020.

According to the news that I have read eight provinces are not ready to go back to school. Hand sanitisers and PPE equipment have not been delivered to schools yet.

Most of the schools in the Western Cape are ready. The schools have been thoroughly cleaned and sanitised, and classrooms and other areas have been rearranged in such a way that they can maintain social distancing.

The staff have gone through various sessions to educate them further on the protocols and arrangements for when the Matrics return. Some schools have produced videos illustrating what the schools have done and what can be expected when the Matrics arrive.

Back to School – The following arrangements have been made for Matrics:

Matrics return on Monday, 1st June 2020.
Screen procedure as per protocols.
Seating will be arranged to maintain social distancing.
No hugging, shaking of hands etc. as from Monday 1st June and the days to follow.

Furthermore:

No assembly.
Matrics to wear civvies and not school uniform. The reason for this is that we want the · Matrics to wear a different set of clothes every day. This would not have been the case if they were wearing the school uniform.
The wearing of a mask is mandatory, and the schools will also be issuing masks to the Matrics. Matrics are permitted to wear their own masks.
Hand sanitiser stations will be available, but Matrics are welcome to bring their own.

There will be a comprehensive plan in place at the schools for frequent cleaning and sanitising of classrooms during the course of the school day.

Schools are aware that hairdressers are still closed, and for now, the hair rules will be relaxed. However, it still needs to be neat and tidy, and boys are not to wear hairpins, bands etc.

Tuckshops will remain closed. Parents must ensure that the Matrics bring their own lunch and refreshments.

If a pupil does not feel well, it is important that you do not come to school. This will help to minimise the risk of infection.

There will be no extramural activities, and therefore pupils are expected to leave the school premises and car park straight after school. No loitering in and around the school.

We hope, circumstances permitting, in the year that the Matrics will still be able to get back to school, and have their Matric Dance and Valedictory service as this is a very important year for them to make memories of the final chapter of their school career.
